Abstract: Using active methods of teaching science and paying attention to children's innate desire for poetry and stories, their creative minds and imagery, the intimate and joyful atmosphere of the story are all things that make the concepts of science not only more attractive, but also deeper and more conceptual. The purpose of this research was to teach the topic of plants using children's poems and stories and its effect on the academic progress of second grade male students in Yazd city. The statistical population of this research was 2850 students of the second grade of elementary school in Yazd in the academic year of 1996-2017, out of which 60 people were selected as a sample by using cluster random sampling method. In this research, a semi-experimental method and a post-test design have been used. The variables were tested by researcher-made questionnaires. The present research was done using spss software and descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (independent t-test) were used for data analysis. The results of the research show that the teaching method using poems and stories has an effect on students and increases their learning and that this method can be considered one of the appropriate methods for teaching the topic of plants in the second grade of elementary school in learning science
